    Hi there,

I see that the headers are built with widgets. But widgets are already legacy and not future-proof… they are being replaced by blocks. When will GeneratePress update and stop using widgets in favor of Gutenberg blocks?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

Tom is definitely working on something about this. There are plans to change/add more things on how the Block element functions.

In fact, there’s actually a working prototype for it. It’s pretty exciting stuff as it even lets you add dynamic content aside from letting you completely customize the template layout which is awesome but it’s not available for public view yet as it’s still in its pretty raw to be released as an alpha.

As to when its going to be released: Tom has yet to set a schedule for it but we’ll make sure to post an announcement once it’s up.

Great to hear! We are VERY eager for this to be released.

Will you send out an email update for the announcement?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

the Block replacement for widgets is still an experimental feature of WP. So implementing this will be dependent on when WP release it. It will also depend on existing plugin developers to convert there widgets to blocks – or rely on the Legacy Widget Block ( which is also under experimental )

But in the meantime you can already use the Block element to add any block generated content to any hook within the theme or replace entire theme elements such as the sidebar.

And if you require a traditional widget area within that content you can use this plugin:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/organic-widget-area-block/

Block Elements also benefit from Display Rules, so there you can dynamically display these … something that isn’t yet covered in WP’s plans.
