Style (particularly hero and the top) messed up after cloning homepage
5 replies · Started by Nathan on April 22, 2021
Hello,
I’m using the “bold” site from the site library.
I used a plugin to clone the homepage that was titled “bold”. Then I made that homepage private to save as a template for potential future use.
With the new copy of the “bold” page, I changed the name and slug to Home. Then I set it as the front page using the Settings > Reading options.
I can’t get the hero image and blue background at the top of the Home page now.
What should I do?

Update:
I went through the steps of what to do before posting that question in this support forum.
Should I have deactivated Elementor temporarily? I did that. I deactivated each plugin to test.
Now things are even worse. The body of the page no longer has its original structure/style. And now other pages are affected too.

Thanks for any help!

Hi Nathan,
Could you activate elementor/GP premium, but keep other plugins deactivated?
We'll have another look then.
Thank you!
Hi Ying,
Thanks for your help.
Right now only Elementor and Generate Press are activated.
My non-homepages work fine now. Here's an example: https://imaginegoodchange.com/about/
But the homepage (https://imaginegoodchange.com/) still doesn't work like on the demo site (https://gpsites.co/bold/). I just noticed the bottom is affected too. I'm guessing the header and footer widgets are missing somehow?
Hi there,
In case it was deactivated, you need GP Premium to be activated because the blue hero section on the first page is coming from one of its modules which is the Header Element.
Can you check the Header element named "Merged Header" and reassign the front page on the display rule location?
Yes, the plugin Generate Press Premium has been on the whole time other than when I briefly tested it off.
Regarding your new instructions:
I went to Appearance > Elements. I see the element "Merged Header". Its location is assigned to Front Page, Page, and Blog already. Is that what you'd expect?

Yes but since you've cloned the Front Page, it may have messed the display rule location up because now there's 2 "Front page".
It's possible that it messed up the assigned front page on Dashboard > Settings > Reading.
