Hi there…

I have a general question. I hope it's alright to post it here.

Do you have a step-by-step guide on the best way to customize the GeneratePress theme? There are probably several ways to approach this, but I am in need of some guidance. I guess it's smart to do first this and then that, etc. I don't mean a detailed guide, i can find most of these in the excellent documentation. But a guide wich order of steps are logic to make and which customizations you better do later? How do you or others on this forum approach the customization af the GeneratePress theme? I am very curious.

Thanks!

Hi there,

some general guidance is to begin with Fonts and Colors.
I and most of the GP Site Designers begin with creating a Styles guide - most of the starter sites have them included eg.

https://gpsites.co/stream/styles/

Its simply a page to add some placeholder text, the Headings H1 - H* and some buttons. All the common elements that you will be using on the site.
Then go about creating Global Colors and Typography Settings in the Customizer.
You can preview the Style Guide whilst you're doing it.

Then i focus on:

1. The Site Header and Navigation.
2. The Content Container Width which i adjust depending on the design eg. does the site require sidebars.
3. The footer

Its then a case of looping back around, as you may need to tweak those colors or typography settings.
