Start Customizing does not work
11 replies · Started by Jacky on December 18, 2021
I just installed and activated a new GP Premium. The Modules work but the Start Customizing area doesn't. When I press the Open options button, a new page opens with a ( Bad Request ) message. I cleared the cache and shut down all the plug-ins. Same thing
Hi Jacky,
Not sure I fully understand your question, any chance you can send us some screenshots for us to understand the issue better?
Let me know :)
Hi Ying
Sorry it took so long. Here are 2 links I hope. One shows the area that doesn't function. The other is the words on the page that opens when you press the Open options button. Do you need to log into the site. It is a new site for testing if that helps.

Hi Jacky,
You can provide the site credentials on the private information text field of this topic. :)

Let us know so we can get the full context of what's happening. Thanks. :D
Hi Elvin
I have cleared the cache. After putting in my License Key I activated all the modules, that all works as far as I can tell. The area below the modules, called Start Customizing has Site Identity, Color Options, Typography System and Layout Options with Open options buttons for each one. I push the buttons and a page opens with a Bad Request message in the top left corner. If you need something else holler.
Seems if you go appearance > customize, all the options are ready to use.
You can start customize your site this way to access the customizer.
In the meantime I'll ask Tom to take a look at the bad request issue :)
Will keep you updated!
Hi Ying
I'll see what everything works like and get back to you. Thanks.
Jacky
Strange, I'm not able to get any "Bad request" errors to happen when clicking those links.
Can you check with your hosting support to see if it's some sort of server misconfiguration?
Thanks!
Hi Tom
I checked with Site Support and their message is as follows.
You are facing such issues due to special characters, You can not add them to the site URL. Special characters are not allowed by our HTTP server. These should be URL encoded, otherwise, our HTTP server will respond with a 'Bad Request'.
After clicking on the "Open Options" it gets redirected to some URL which is having square brackets in it. The problem is that these square bracket characters [ and ] are not allowed by our HTTP server.
You will need to get in touch with the plugin provider and ask them to replace it.
[ should be replaced with "% 5 B" and ] should be replaced with "% 5 D"
Can you help me with this.
Thanks Jacky
Hi Jacky,
I'll look into whether we can do this without breaking the functionality of the links. It's not something I can offer a solution for right now, unfortunately.
However, those links simply take you to the corresponding sections in the Customizer. You can reach these same sections by going to "Appearance > Customize". The links that aren't working for you aren't essential whatsoever to the functionality of the theme.
Let us know if you have any other questions :)
Thanks!
Hi Tom
Thanks for the explanation and info.
I have already used "Appearance > Customize". It seems complicated doing it that way especially working with fonts and typography.
Thats why I thought the Start Customizing options sections would help. I will try it for a while and see how it works.
I appreciate the help and time. Thanks.
Jacky
The only difference is the Start Customizing links take you directly to the section in the Customizer.
So:
Start Customizing > Typography > Open Options takes you to "Appearance > Customize > Typography".
Only an extra click :)
Glad I could help!
