Speeding Up YouTube videos

Yep, most of what Google provides can absolutely tank your performance.
This plugin will help with that:

Thanks page speed has gone from 46% to 64%, which is a lot better, but still quite far off the 95% it was before I added the YouTube video, I'm going to see it improves further overnight (the site seems a bit slower this evening anyway)

Not sure if that plugin is doing what it should be doing. I can still see the Scripts that YouTube loads on initial loading. Might be because the video is in the sidebar. The plugin author is really responsive, raise a topic on the plugin forum - he should be able to help make sure its working as it should.

Thanks, yes I should have been using their widget, not the standard YouTube one. It's speeded the page to over 90%.

I still have an issue with the video image, so I'm leaving the ticket open for now, however you've been a really great help.

Its not grabbing a URL for the poster image.
See if it works when you add a youtube video to the post content.

If it doesn't then theres something amiss with the Youtube embed.
If it does then its probably the plugin not being able to 'grab' it when running in the sidebar. The plugin author should be able to advise on that.

Curiously switching off the Siteground security plugin seems to do the trick,
