[Resolved] Slider in place of featured image

Thanks for producing a great theme and set of add ons. I’m enjoying the premium package.

I’d like to get your advice on the best way to use an image slider like slider revolution in place of the featured image for the home page. Would you just use the slider short code in the body of the home page content and not load a featured image? Have you ever tried something like this?

I’d like to verify prior to purchasing the slider addon.

I would personally put the slider shortcode into the “Content” area of the Page Header add-on. This will load it above the content/sidebar of the page.

Hi. I’m making a lot of progress with all your help, but I’m stuck again. I don’t know if I’m asking the same question as above, but I’m trying to use the Page Header add-on (which I love) to create a slider on the home page. I’d like the image that I’m using as background for the Page Header content to be the first image, but I can’t figure out how to add additional images to it. I need to be able to have different (and differently styled) content on each the slider images, which will link to other pages or posts. Can you tell me help me with this?

(I’ve also tried using Shortcodes Ultimate and Meta Slider to do this, but can’t figure out how to start with the “featured image” showing the content as it is now on the home page. In other words, I can’t get the slider to replace the featured image and/or customize the style of the content on the slides. Do I have to purchase the premium version of something to be able to do this?)

Hi Sonya,

You would have to use a slider plugin for this like Meta Slider (as you mentioned) or Smart Slider (there’s tons of others as well).

You would create the slides using the plugin settings, and then copy the provided shortcode and add it to the “Content” area of the Page Header add-on.

Hi again. Thanks very much. Could you maybe suggest a simpler slider plug-in that maybe has fewer bells and whistles and less customization, but maybe allows you to crop images within the slider frame…if this makes any sense… getting all sorts of different sized slides, some with padding at the top, others on the sides, and having to crop and re-upload images over and over to get them all to fit the same way…seems like WordPress used to be a lot easier for non-developers…thanks.

I don’t have a huge amount of experience with slider plugins, but if you do a search for “WordPress slider plugins” you should find pages of lists of top x slider plugins etc.. you might find a good one.

Meta slider, smart slider and soliloquy are ones that come to mind right away for me.
