Site Icon automatically gets black background?

Hi I uploaded a site icon in the customizer. It is applying a black background to the icon in the preview, I didn't mean for it to have any background color, which is why I uploaded a transparent png. If anything, it should be white, not black - where can I change this? Thanks!
If it's a PNG, there should be no background at all. Maybe try re-saving the file?
I tried this, it is still showing up with a black background in the customizer....but when I put it on my homescreen in android, it showed up properly. I'll have to test on iOS later.

I'm seeing it normally in my browser tabs - it may just be a weird effect in the Customizer itself.
yes it is showing up in the browser tabs properly, as well as on android desktop. okay, i'm chalking this down to a weird effect in the customizer. thanks!
