Sidebar widgets and Adsense ad sizes

I've noticed that the two Google Adsense ads in my sidebar only ever display very slim ads, and never the taller higher value ads.

Is there something about the structure of these 'Text' widgets that is limiting Adsense to these smaller sizes? If yes, what can be done?

I don't believe your website has any say in the size of ads. If I recall, the size of the ads are determined by what kind of ad you generate in your Google account. For example, if you choose a "Responsive" ad type, Google will try to fit the ad inside the container where it's placed.

If you choose a wider ad type, that's what should display.
