Sidebar Layout in Customize?

This is probably obvious, but I don't get it. I get the Sidebar Layout option on each individual page and post and I understand what the options are on the Customizer for Blog Sidebar and Single Post Sidebar Layout, but I don't get what the Sidebar Layout on the Customizer does? What does it do?
The sidebar layout option in the Customizer is for regular pages. So it sets the layout for all regular static pages throughout the site.
