Show sub menu(s) expanded

I'm using the Sider site from the Site Library.
However, the sub menu items are collapsed, and I'd like them to be expanded at all times (hence using a side menu).
How can I achieve this please?

What if you just create the whole menu as parent menu item and no child menu item?
This site is currently using the same idea on mobile.

Thanks, the reason I chose the original method was so I could style the sub menu differently.
But your suggestion seemed reasonable, so I've created one menu, and then tried to style certain elements using a css class.
But even with !important in the CSS (added in Additional CSS in the customiser), it just ignores it?!
Styling menu item differently is a bit tricky.
