Show Category in Blog Sidebar

Hi Support,
I've tried to make sense out of several of the topics that came up once I typed in my topic title, but have not been able to figure out just what to do. Sorry!
I'd like the primary categories to show in the sidebar so a visitor could click on a category of interest and be taken to those blogs.
I checked "Category" in Customizer, thinking that would make the blog categories show on the sidebar. It didn't, however.
What do I need to do to have them show? I'm suspecting this is more complicated than I'd originally thought.
I'd appreciate some direction on how to do this, please. I can follow the directions in an article if you can help me with which article is the one I need.

Hi there,
you would need to add it as Widget.
Customizer > Widgets > Sidebar --> Add New --> Categories
David, thank you! Widgets and I aren't best friends yet so I never think of them as a solution. However, you were exactly right. I had it done in seconds ... without any technical bits. :-)
