Sections on home page are blank

I have three sites running GP and when I try to edit the sections on the home page, there are no elements, completely blank. I have tried switching from the classic editor to blocks but still nothing. The site is fine in the browser but I need to add a section. I have upgraded to the most recent versuons of GP and WP and updated all the plu-ins. I am more of a designer thean front end developer, so this is really not what I expected from GP after all this time.
