Sections: how does Background Color Overlay work?

I would like to lay a color over my background image. I thought, I just set a background color and set (somewhere) the opacity, but that clearly is not possible. Or is it?

Hi there,
Which part is not possible? Looks like you haven't set the background color?
It's the first option in the second column. I just tested it and it works fine.

Aaaah, thanks! I tried using the rgba color format before (in Typography, I think) and it wasn't accepted. So, I just assumed you cannot use it in Sections, either.
