Right Sidebar Doesn't Show Widgets

Hi Tom,

I am using WPMU Directory with layout of Content/Sidebar. For some reason my widgets do not show up on the right sidebar for this app.

Example page: https://christiangays.com/listings-category/testimonials/

There should be a login widget and a custom menu, but they don't show up. If I change themes I can see them. It is only with GeneratePress Child theme that I have the problem.

I have posted a ticket with WPMU but they have not been able to find a reason. Do you have any ideas?
Thank you.

Hi Mary,

I'm seeing a 404 page with the left sidebar set?

Let me know :)

You have an internal server error happening, which is stopping the rest of the page from loading.

Most likely coming from one of your plugins.

Thank you Tom. I de-activated all my plugins except WooCommerce and bbPress because my site breaks if I disable them due to some code in functions.php. It didn't make any difference.

This information is really helpful. It gives me some direction to look.
Many thanks!

Your error_log file will have a more detailed error it - should shed some light on the issue :)

I'm not finding any error logs in public_html, wp-content or wp-admin.

You might have to ask your hosting where they keep it.

Normally they show up in all three places. I just assumed I didn't have any errors when I didn't see them. I'll have my systems admin look into it. He's really good at figuring things out.

Thanks for your help. I'll close the ticket.

WPMU says: I added entire content of your functions.php to the GeneratePress child theme on my test site, then I enabled WooCommerce and bbPress and tested it and still sidebars where showing for me. There was no errors reported in debug.log and error.log, no errors in the console.
As your developer identified that there's some internal server error, that must be related to some specific settings of the site.

Did the developer shared any more information on this? I'm wondering how this may be related to the particular setup.

Hmm, internal server error is an error on the server, I'm not sure how they can't see exactly what the error is.

You said you copied the entire functions.php file and added it to your child theme? That might be the issue - your child functions.php file should only have your custom functions.

Sorry for a misunderstanding. Yes, my functions.php file only has my custom functions. It's just that there are a lot.

I'm finding out that this is an issue not restricted to WPMU Directory plugin. I have the same problem with Arconix FAQ pages as well.

WPMU says "I can now see a error 500 in https://christiangays.com/information-category/clobber-verses/
Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error)"

I will forward my access info and ask them to take a look at all my files.

WPMU says re Directory plugin: This is related to pagination settings on "Listings -> Settings" page. There are two checkboxes letting you show pagination at the top and at the bottom of the page. If both are active, that's causing the error that you developer found out about. Switching one of them off immediately solves that and site's working fine, including showing sidebars again. I made that change on your site so this part would be solved.

Still trying to find out why Arconix FAQ's have a problem but it's restricted to my main site and doesn't affect any of my sub-domains so we're moving in the right direction.

Thanks for your help Tom.

That's strange, but I'm glad they were able to solve the issue. Sounds like there's a bug in the listings plugin you're using.

Yes, that's what it appears to be.
