I have been asked to re create a website which has a static background with blog items/text flowing vertically.

I can't quite figure how I might achieve this with GP.
I know it's a bit of a general query, but can you point me in the right direction.

If so there isn't anything built-in in GP that will help with this so you will basically need to custom code it.

Unfortunately not. The site library templates are our best examples :)
