[Support request] Renaming theme name folder

Hey guys,

I would like to rename the theme name (folder) of generatepress.

From what I understand, I need to:
– Change the generatepress folder name in wp-content/themes/
– Change the theme name in the style.css file

1) Is this correct?

2) I won’t receive auto updates of the theme. But how will I be able to update it when a new version comes out? Also, would the new update override anything?

Hi there,

1. Yes.

2. You would need to manually delete the current files in the folder, then upload the newest ones.

As long as there’s no code changes to the theme itself, it won’t override anything.

Does the premium GeneratePress plugin work if the theme folder name is changed??

It will work, but it will output a message in your Dashboard saying GeneratePress must be the active theme: https://generatepress.com/forums/topic/gp-premium-requires-generatepress-to-be-default-theme-message/#post-296388
