Remove an existing Google Analytics Tag?
3 replies · Started by tbgr on February 22, 2021
Good morning.
I've installed the Google's Site Kit plug in. (I had Monster Insights plugin installed but removed/deleted it.) In Google Analytics itself, I created a new account. When using Site Kit's setup to find this new account, I get this error message:
'Error: We've detected there's already an existing Analytics tag on your site (ID UA-158803287-1), but your account doesn't seem to have access to this Analytics property. You can either remove the existing tag and connect to a different account, or request access to this property from your team.'
I would like to remove the tag shown above but can't seem to do it. I tried looking at the Header and Footer in Appearance/Editor but didn't see any Google Analytics tag there.
Any suggestions? Thank you!
Hi there,
check to see if you have any Hook Elements containing the scripts in Dashboard > Appearance > Elements.
If there are none then chances are your original tags added by Monster are still present... this could be a 'bug' in their plugin or it could be your page has been cached with them intact. Clear any plugin and server caches to check.
Yes, it was in Elements. I deleted it and now all is well.
Thank you very much!!!!
Glad to be of help
