"Read more" link/button doesn't show up in the last post

Hi there,
on a website with a blog page a client uses the read more button/link and it always showed up so far,
but in the last post it does not appear...
i tried to insert the read more tag of wordpress but nothing changed.
I also unchecked and checked again the option in customizer for this button/link - but didn't work
she is creating the posts in Elementor
in a new Test Post the link showed up again, but why not in this last post ? it happened once in the past and it seems that when the post is very long, the read more doesn't appear (just a thought, don't know...), because also this other post in the past was long... any ideas?
Thanks
Hi,
Let's check a few things.
Is the post using a manual excerpt? If yes, refer to this post. https://generatepress.com/forums/topic/read-more-button-disappears-when-using-manual-excerpts/
And this documentation - https://docs.generatepress.com/article/activating-read-custom-excerpt/
Also, can you check if the post format is set to standard? Not having the post format set to standard is known to cause this issue.
no, the post is not using a manual excerpt - the author doesn't know how to do that - she is just writing her posts in elementor. and yes, the format is set to standard.
PS: we changed the page to a Blog Website - so the landingpage is the blog now - the link is below
I'm not seeing anything obvious.
If you create a new post (without Elementor) with some test content, does the excerpt show?
Hi Leo,
yes, when i create a new post (with elementor and without elementor) the readmore-link is visible...
this is what i don't understand - it is just this last post, where the excerpt is not showing up and i don't know why.
Hi there,
what happens if you copy the content of that post to a new post - does the readmore display ?
Hi David
yes, when she copies the article into a new post, the readmore display.
i guess the easiest way to solve this is to use this new post and move/copy the comments to this new post, because she doesn't wanna loose the comments... is there a way to do that ?
Hmmm... tricky one.
The only plugin that people still recommend is this one:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/tako-movable-comments/
Although its out of date - one reviewer has said it still works in WP 5.
I would suggest only testing on a staging server.
Otherwise you would need to find and replace them the Database.
Ok, thank you !
You're welcome
