"Read more" does not show

Not quite sure what you mean. Where are you adding the more tag? At the end of the post?

It is only supposed to be used when you want to show the HTML of the content:

Sounds like you might be looking for excerpt instead?

May I ask what you overlooked?

All my old posts show the "read more button" below but newest post doesn't anymore. The newest post didn't show the excerpt either but that I could temporarily solve by having Wordpress display the first 55 words of the post.

Maybe the problem with the "read more button" you had is the same as mine.
