Re position nav menu in header

I completely removed the functions.php file from the child theme and left the css styling that you suggested. It has successfully put the nav menu on the same (top) level of the header as the logo. I can't get the header widget with the social icons to center in the header, but I think it is OK. I appreciate the help.

No problem :)
I would even suggest making it so that social widget is just below the blue header, centered and larger - then the header would only be logo and nav, and the social buttons would be larger and more apparent right after the header.
Something to think about :)
Thanks Tom - That is a good suggestion. The social media icons (I am using the Ultimate Social Media icons plug in) are in the header widget and I can't get it to change the widget location. That is just where it appears. I haven't seen anything in the layout options that let me change that.
This plugin may help: https://wordpress.org/plugins/widget-shortcode/
It allows you to add the widget to another section, and then call it anywhere on your page using a shortcode.
