question about categories in sidebar

I had a category sidebar working fine for my blog where all the categories showed up in a menu pulldown with the number of items appearing next to each category.

i added a shopping page, and suddenly my sidebar categories are not correct. I can't figure out how to get the two different categories (one for blog, one for shopping) to appear on their respective pages using the menu pull down.

All I have now are the shopping categories listed straight down the sidebar regardless of page. I tried reviewing on GP how to set different side bars on the blog vs. shopping pages, but couldn't figure it out.

Can someone help me?

Hi Lauren,

There are multiple ways of doing this. You can either go with a third-party plugin (content aware sidebar), or use Block Element - right sidebar for this.

For the Block Element - Right Sidebar.

This one completely replaces the sidebar of your site to the one specified on the Block Element - Right Sidebar.

That said, you can create 2 Block element - Right Sidebar. One of Blog pages, another for Shopping pages.

For the Block Element - right Sidebar (Blog pages), you can add in "Categories" Block and set the Display rule location to the blog pages you've created.

For the Block Element - right sidebar (Shopping pages), you can add in "Product Categories List" block and set the Display rule location to the shopping pages.

As for the third-party plugin method, you do this on Appearance > Widgets.

content-aware sidebar plugins allows users to set a specific display rule for its widgets on the Widget area. This means you can place a Categories widget (for general posts) and Product Categories List (for shopping pages). The individual widgets will have its own conditions added by the plugin, from this setting, you can set which appears on what page. :D
