Problem with site preview

I am trying to build a site for a domain which is not yet available. I have built the site on the A2Hosting platform with the GeneratePress theme and can view the site, but have problems customizing it. When I make changes and then try to publish, I get "Looks like something’s gone wrong. Wait a couple seconds, and then try again". I have update the database to show the site and home URLs as the preview value (http://70.32.28.57/plesk-site-preview/%5Bmysite.com%5D), but still get the error.
Hi there,
Can you try #1 here to eliminate any plugin conflicts?

The only plugins loaded are GP plugins. If I deactivate those, there is nothing to customize ... I only get the top line with "You are customizing". Switching to TwentySeventeen theme, there is still nothing to customize.
It could have something to do with your URL.

I would contact your hosting company to see if there's something obvious on their end.
Thanks for the link -- I checked out the admin-ajax.php file, but this is only two lines and I can't see a problem there. While the post includes numerous claims of a solution, none of them seem to work for me. I have other sites with GP and no problem, so I'll try building this one locally instead.
It may be worth poking your hosting company. They might have an idea.
