Jason
Hi there,
I’m finishing a WooCommerce site, and using GP for the shop’s product archive pages. The pages are set to display categories and sub-categories only.
My problem is that I’ve got one category called “spare parts” that has sub categories in it, and the products are in the sub categories and another called “replacement pillows” that doesn’t, so all the products are at the category level itself.
Unfortunately, I can’t get the spare parts category to display. It seems that because all the products are in the sub-categories and none are in the spare parts category itself, the page thinks the spare parts category is empty.
Can you tell me how I can get it to display? GP, and the GP plugin are up to date. Site uses Elementor, but on this page, the only Elementor bits are header and footer, the main part of the page is GP.
Thank you, Jason

StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
thats the expected behaviour of a woocommerce category archive ( its not the Theme that dictates that ).
Woo provides options in Customizer > Woocommerce for setting the Catalogs behaviour: Categories, Products or Categories + Products.
But for a child term product to be displayed in a parent category archive it must have both parent and child category terms. Or it won’t display them in the parent archive.July 22, 2021 at 8:50 am #1866688Jason
Hi David
Thanks for your reply. And thanks for letting me know it’s a Woo thing. So even though there are products with inventory in the sub categories, the category that those sub categories are in won’t display?
cheers
Jason

StaffCustomer SupportThats correct – products are only displayed in a specific category if they belong directly to that category.

Well that’s a bugger. I’ll have to make all the sub-categories top level categories.
Thanks for your help David
Cheers

StaffCustomer SupportWait up – might have been suffering from some heatstroke or something earlier, but that didn’t sound right.
So i ran a quick test with Parent (0 products) > Child ( X products ) – and as long as the Customizer > Woocommerce > Catalog is set to Display Products then i get to see products in the parent….July 22, 2021 at 3:32 pm #1867090Jason
Heat is something I know about this month! I live near Victoria BC, so the heat-dome was over us a little while ago. 🙂 I’ve had this running https://www.tychesoftwares.com/how-to-show-categories-without-products-on-woocommerce-shop-page/ this morning, but I’ve disabled that code, changed the settings, and it’s working perfectly.
Thanks again for your time!
