Primary menu top level decides what secondary menu you get

Is it possible to arrange it so that the top level items of primary menu decides what secondary menu you get? It means a special secondary menu for each top level menu item.
I have seen that too. As long as it does not crash with generatepress, I will probably go for it. Does it make the site slower with all this conditional testing?
I wouldn't think it would slow down your page.
