Nice to know somebody else works so early Sunday morning Tom!
The blog had a lot of resource problems recently. Hosted by Zen, whose technicians are very good, but obviously WordPress uses a lot of cron jobs and they couldn’t get past that to see what was causing a lot of random I/O activity.
The archive plugin was this one, which was disabled recently: https://www.wpbeginner.com/blueprint/compact-archives/Lead Developer
It might be worth trying out another host just to test if hosting is the issue or not.
