Posts in page kind of thingy

I would like to have my blog post page as my homepage --> done by default.
And some of these articles should additionally show up on another page. These articles all belong to only one category. So I tried the "posts in page" plugin, but it only shows in excerpt of the post without any image.
Now I want to now if there is a better way to do what I want to do, maybe with some sort of GP-functionalities.
The best for me would be if I can get a 2 column table and each page is some kind of tile. With an excerpt of the article and an image.
Would be nice if someone could help me get along with it.

I was looking for something exactly like this! I coded my own that would give you a simple unordered list, but I was looking for one which gave you a little bit of the "blog" feel. This is so awesome! Love this community!
