Posts and Pages without Sidebar - How wide shoult it be?

Hello,
I want to create a site without sidebars. It should have a static home page with text and images and a blog site, where all posts are listet.
I want to use the System Stack Fonts with font size 20 px.
How wide should the container be, so that the text is optimal readable?
Is there any advice?
Or is it in general not advisable to create a site without sidebar?
Hi there,
the default theme settings are usually fine to go with.
They are a Container Width of 1200px and a Right Sidebar of 30%. And a default 40px padding. And separating space of 20px.
So your main content would roughly be
840px container minus 80px padding minus 20px spacing = 740px form the main content.
Hi David,
do you mean, that i should set the width in the container to 840 ? This seems very small to me.
It really depends... for posts an 840px width gives you a reading width of 740px. Which is a nice reading width.... for Pages that have a more 'designed' layout such as columns you would want to leave the container at a larger width eg. 1200px.
But it really depends on your specific design style.
Yeah, I know what you mean. On Homepage, one can have a more designed layout, as you said. But i only need one static page for homepage. The rest will be blogposts, with lot of text.
On a test page, I have set the customizer to 840, It is good readable. But i have a different body background color, and then the content container looks very small. Especially on a big monitor. I don't know, if this looks good.
Are there any recommendation on how many characters or words per line are ideal?
Personally i like the Contained look on the Single post... but you can change the customizer > colors > body --> background color to match that in the customizer > colors > content.
Optimum reading width ranges between 55 and 75 characters ( or there abouts, it changes from one source to another ). With a font size of 17px the above settings should result in around 68-70 characters.
Thanks for the info about the characters.
with contained look, do you mean one container? I have switched to one container, but it does not change anything. But i leave it this way.
I think it is better to have the same background color as the container. Then the container did not look so small.
Sorry for the confusion - what i meant was having the content background a separate color to the body.... if it suits the design. But having a single color background works just as well.
