Post Listing and Post Featured Image

Perhaps I have misunderstood the concept however I have two issues I am unable to clearly see a resolution to.
On my blog post page I use a post listing http://prntscr.com/s1rg43 when I choose one of the categories I get a listing opposite of all (one) of the posts in the category: http://prntscr.com/s1rgik The issue is that although listed it does not provide me with a link to the post, just its title.
If I add a featured image to the post then the featured image image becomes the link - how do I make the text be the link to the post.
Also if I add a featured image to my post the featured image appears behind the post page and also up into the page header: http://prntscr.com/s1rhvz - I have tried disabling the featured image in both the post Disable Elements options and also in the Customise - Layout locations but the only way I have found to not have it as shown is to remove the featured image which then results in the link to the resource being inactive.

I have tried these combinations and I still see the ghosted featured image encroaching in on the header area.
Where you have highlighted in green, if you choose coaching or videos it will list the posts available (1) but they are not active links.

1. Edit the Hero Element
Uncheck the Disable Featured Image - this will display the featured image within the Post content.
Then for the Background Image select either No Image or Custom Image.
2. For the post links - in Customizer > Additional CSS - remove this:
