Hi Tom,
On the blog/post page, the date of the post links to the post permalink.
Is this the intended behaviour? I don't think the link on the post date is needed.

Yes, this is intended.
If your post doesn't have a title, there still needs to be a link to your single post, which is why the date is linked.
You can remove the link by adding this function: https://gist.github.com/generatepress/c85efe13dd49dd68d91f
