Pictures: which size to choose?

Hi everyone,
I have to write an article for the blog which contains many high resolution images (jewels).
I usually load 1200x1200 compressed images.
I would like to go down the resolution so as to lighten the load of the page but I'm afraid that then they look bad "grainy".
In the article I will have to insert about 30/40 images with about 3000 words of text.
Advice?
Hi there,
You could limit their size to the width of the container they sit in. As a rough guide a single post template with sidebar requires an image of around 768 - 800px wide to fill the content width.
Best thing to do is to test some images to see how they look with less pixels.
And use a Lazy Loading plugin so they don't load unless the user scrolls to them
