Page Title in Editor Missing
19 replies · Started by Steve on April 9, 2021
I searched these forums for solution but no fix pertaining to my particular trouble. Anyhow. Today I went to create a new Page/Post and the Title field in the Editor is completely missing? So I disabled all plugins, cleared cache, tried different browsers, etc. The usual troubleshooting routine. Installed Twenty-Nineteen to test and it works/shows/ is editable as expected in stock WP theme.
It turns out it was "fixable" in the Heading Settings ... However.. The cursor is blinking now on a new page... But there's no "Add title" in the field. This will no doubt confuse the customer. Any advice? Thanks.
Hi there,
I'm not exactly sure if I can picture what you are describing.
However, by default, the page title field in the editor looks like this:

What is your font size set in Customizer > Typography > Headings > h1?

Hi Leo,
Thanks for the reply. This is where I got the field back. For whatever reason these headings were somehow set to zero? So I'm unsure how I didn't discover this sooner? I'm sure it wasn't behaving this way before I handed it to the client.
Anyhow. Now when I create a new post/page the field only shows a blinking cursor where it used to read the default "Add title"... That placeholder is missing.
Here is a screenshot

Hi there,
in the customizer font settings - check your Line-height make sure this a has value in it - suggest it is set to a minimum of 1
Hi David,
Thanks for the reply. All are set to 1.4. i thought perhaps it was Form css? Not so... changed to grey with no effect in editor. Placeholder is in source code, but invisible on the page... or somehow it's being made white? But I don't see that viewing the elements
<textarea id="post-title-0" class="editor-post-title__input" placeholder="Add title" rows="1" style="overflow: hidden; word-wrap: break-word; resize: none; height: 99px;"></textarea>
So can you see any text you type into the title field ?
Yes. So you know.. If it wasn't a client site I could live with it... But it's a 100% G they are going to complain about it.
Could you provide us with a temporary admin login so we can take a look at the backend
Sure.
We will also need the link to your site with the credentials.
Thanks!
oops
Hmm I don't think I'm seeing any issues on my end:

Are there any specific steps to replicate the issue?
Well... as Fat Freddy used to say.. I'll be dipped in dog..
Anyhow. I trust you. Must be my browser then... I've removed all cookies.. reset cache.. etc. etc.. Something is turning it to white? Heck if I know..

Man. I wish I was in Whistler. Jealous.
That's strange. Do you see that across all browsers?
What about incognito mode?
