    Hi,

I’ve built a website with an online store for a bookshop using wordpress, Generate Press, Elementor and Woocommerce. when we change an order’s status from “processing” or “on hold” or whatever to “completed” it comes up with the following error page:

“There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.
Learn more about debugging in WordPress.”

I have deactivated each plugin indiviudally and tested it each time and it still comes up with the error. I have changed the Theme to StoreFront and it works ok – so I have a feeling that the issue is with the Generate Press theme. It does save the page though, as when I return to the order, it is marked as completed.

    Can you please assist?

    Thanks,
    Joslyn

Let me know if that’s the wrong info. I need to go to work now but will check again later…

Hmmm… all those errors are related to Elementor – and i can’t see what would be conflicting with the Theme…

Do you have any custom functions in GP Hooks or a child theme ?

Hi David, Thanks for your reply.

No, no child theme or custom functions in GP hooks. Do I need to contact Elementor then to see what the issue might be?

    Hi David, me again,

Just saw that we were receiving the email – this is what the error says:
“An error of type E_PARSE was caused in line 36 of the file /home/proecclesia/public_html/wp-content/themes/generatepress/woocommerce/emails/customer-completed-order.php. Error message: syntax error, unexpected ‘”

Ok, I’ve found the issue – i’ve deleted in the info on the line 36 above. Sorry to have bothered you and thanks again for your support. I love Generate Press and Elementor (when it works :P)
    Regards,
    Joslyn

That looks like the culprit 🙂
But GP doesn’t add the Woocommerce email templates to the Theme directory so this has to have been added to the theme by a developer ( or somebody ).

This generally happens if changes are required to the original template found here:

    https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/blob/master/templates/emails/customer-completed-order.php

Does this ring any bells ? As the file will need repairing and should be added to a Child Theme.
Alternatively a plugin like this can do the job instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/kadence-woocommerce-email-designer/

    Let me know

Ooops missed that last reply – glad to hear that you fixed it.
You may want to look into adding those templates to a Child Theme or using the plugin i mention above – or those changes may be lost when the Theme is updated.
