Open images in bigger size without popup/new page

Hey guys,
I have a few images on the website and want to give my visitors a chance to look at them in a bigger state. I do not want them to pop up in a new window though which they would have to manually close. Is there any option to just overlap the image in the full size with an X to close it again? Like a Pop up, but on the same site and not opening a same browser window. I hope that makes sense :)
I cant find any options in the GUtenberg Editor, but there is the option to put a Link rel and Link CSS Class - perhaps with that it would be possible to achieve this effect?
Thanks!
Hi there,
you will need a Lightbox plugin, theres a lot available on wordpress.org - if you want just a lightbox then try this one:
Ah thanks, now I know how this feature is called :)
Again, trying to keep the amount of plugins minimal. Any idea if this might come out of the box with Wordpress at some point? Its not super urgent.
I doubt WP will add it anytime soon. Its very much a plugin kinda feature.
If its something you need then theres no harm adding a well coded plugin :)
Thanks, I will try out the "Responsive Lightbox & Gallery" one since it has a bit better reviews and seems to be well coded as well :)
Glad to hear you found one :)
