not able to install visual composer or slider plugins

I just purchased the generatepress premium plugin.. I first installed the free theme and then added the gp premium plugin and all was well.However I have attempted to install visual composer plugin and plugin failed.. I then proceeded an attempt to install revolution slider and it failed as well.. Any idea why ?
