Cody
Guys, I have GP, GP premium and GP blocks and am starting a build-out. I have Mike Oliver’s videos. Where are the BASIC instructions such as accessing the elements to build a site from a blank canvas? There must be some super basic instructions to get someone started I can’t find. Sorry for the newb question but we all have to start somewhere. Thanks.

StaffCustomer SupportHi Cody,
What do you mean by accessing the elements?
You can go to the Elements panel by going to Dashboard > Appearance > Elements or clicking the link in the admin bar:
https://www.screencast.com/t/s7jrE0COyBFOur YouTube channel has some useful videos as well:
https://www.youtube.com/c/generatepressAnd our documentation should be up to date:

thanks leo but I’m going to be honest, the Y channel is not very useful. imagine never seeing a car before and you need to repair one and all the videos made by the manufacturer are close ups of screws or a floor mat. you still don’t know what car looks like. same with the YT channel. nowhere is there a video like – lets build a home page using all the elements step by step. now that would be useful. follow along as I make a cake and you should have a cake at the end. those aren’t on the YT channel…I’ll search for videos from creators that have built out using GP. Thanks.

StaffCustomer SupportI believe importing a pre-built template would be a good start for you:
https://generatepress.com/site-library/There are a lot of walkthrough videos on YouTube explaining a few of the templates as well.
I would say that another good option for you is to find an example site that you want to achieve, then our support can point you in the right direction – specific questions are easier for us to help than general questions π
Let us know!

Thanks…Want the fastest site possible so I have to build from scratch. I’ll find a couple and send them along. For now I’m going to devour as many GP and GP Block vids I can find. Just wish you guys put out some better content showing various builds. Thanks again.

StaffCustomer SupportWant the fastest site possible so I have to build from scratch.
All of our site library templates should have excellent performance – the performance of your site does not depend on whether is a build from scratch or not π

So you’re saying a template will perform as well as one built with containers and grids from a blank page?

StaffCustomer SupportThe templates are basically built with containers and grids from a blank page so I don’t see why not.

Leo,
Ok, now then…I downloaded the Scribe template. I have no idea where it is. It isn’t in pages. A new page called Styles showed up. Don’t know why. Where is the Scribes template, and where to begin styling it? Thanks again.

Leo, I found the template in Customize. I can’t edit it. Thanks again.

StaffCustomer SupportThe home page of Scribe is the blog/posts page.
And the layout is coming from Block Element Content Template:

Ok Leo I’ll check it out thanks again. I’ve built websites using Elementor so I’m not a total bewb but once I get my bearings I’m sure I’ll be off and running. Great vid on WPTuts on GB by the way. Thanks again.

Leo,
Ok, after several days unsuccesfully trying to edit a template, how do I delete it again? I have to start over from scratch. I am considering going back to Elementor. At least there is sufficient supporting documentation to learn how to build a site. Not so with GB. A few Mike Oliver vids, a random tut here and there. Not good.

StaffCustomer SupportMaybe this method would work for you:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-the-site-library/#removing-an-imported-siteIf not then you can try WP Reset it:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-reset/Please note that WP reset will erase everything and let you start from scratch π
