Dear GP Team,
I’m trying to build my first website with WP and GP. I’ve just uploaded a new template (starter site from your library), it’s the one called “Shop”. I start off in WordPress, seeing my hosting address (it’s a preview site) but when I click on the template’s shop buttons, I get directed to gpsites.co. Once I’ve clicked on a shop button, all the other buttons also get directed to gpsites.co. Before that, the other ones (e.g. home, about etc.) show my domain preview address.
How can this direction to gpsites be turned off? I’ve found 2 other posts here related to this subject but I didn’t understand them, unfortunately. Sorry!
Thanks a lot for your kind help.June 27, 2022 at 6:58 am #2265744David
StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
you can edit the Home Page in the Block Editor, and select the Button and change its URL
I made a quick video on the original site:June 27, 2022 at 8:02 am #2265970sunrunning
Thank you so much for this video, Dave! <3 I did what you showed me and it seems to have worked partially.
When I now click on “Shop online” (mid left on landing page), it directs to “Shop”, where nothing happens, cf. screenshot. The same happens when I click on the soaps further down (which you also showed in your video). Only when I click on “shop” at the top (middle, next to “home”) does the actual shop open and I can put products into the cart. However, the field saying “Additional information” has vanished and there is only “Description” and “Reviews”. Do you know why this happens and what I could do?
What’s odd is that when having clicked “shop” in this way, the url says “shop-2” at the end of the link. Is this supposed to be this way or does it indicate some mistake?June 27, 2022 at 8:37 am #2266013sunrunning
Update: I found and deleted some old “pages” (I tried using another template of yours 3 years ago but failed…), which probably interfered with the new template. This happened even though I deleted the old import before choosing the new template. But I’m such a noob that I’m not surprised at strange things appearing, which were certainly my doing whilst being unaware.
Now the links don’t reach a dead end anymore. But there is still that missing “Additional information” field when clicking on a product. Also, I forgot to mention that above, but the text has magically (noob magic?) turned into German. I checked in the dashboard for WooCommerce settings but couldn’t find anything.June 27, 2022 at 10:09 am #2266114Ying

is added to the product itself, can you check if the info has been added to the product? You can find the field at dashboard > Woocommerce > Product > Product data > Attributes, please refer to the screenshot below:

Thanks a lot. When I go where you have indicated in your screenshot, it doesn’t show me what I can see on your screen, cf. screenshot.
In the template, there is an automatic text field saying “Additional information”. Should this not appear in my upload, too? And why does it appear in German even though I didn’t change any settings for the template? Cf. screenshots.June 27, 2022 at 11:46 am #2266171Ying
StaffCustomer SupportCan you share the full URL of the images?
I’m not able to see any of the images.June 27, 2022 at 1:16 pm #2266232sunrunning
Sorry! I’ve uploaded the pictures externally now, cf. links.

StaffCustomer SupportIt looks like the attributes of the product didn’t get imported.
But I don’t think that’s a big issue as you can create your own attributes which are suitable for your products π
Can you try creating attributes and see if they show up in the additional info on the product page?
Here’s the Woocomemrce guide for adding attributes:

Thank you so much! I tried it on one of the items and it worked.
Do you have any idea why the language automatically switched to German or where I can control that? In the end, I will need it in German but I also want to have an English version. I’m just worried that there’s some active setting that messes up a clean setup, using your template.June 27, 2022 at 2:24 pm #2266301Ying

If your site language is set to Germany, it will be translated to that language automatically. It’s normal behavior.
You can switch language at settings > general:
https://www.siteground.com/tutorials/wordpress/change-languageAnd in the future, if you want to have the site translated to English or the other way around, you can use a translating plugin.

Ah, I see. I’ve got my dashboard set to English but my site to German (a long time ago). Didn’t know that if I use an English template, it will automatically change some words. It only did it for some WooCommerce items, though.
Thanks a lot for your awesome support and also to David – huge thanks again for that awesome video earlier today! π
