However, since I’m upgrading from GP 2, my previous layout stays

Try this.

1. Enable Menu Plus module in Appearance > GeneratePress.
2. Enable Navigation as Header in Customizer > Layout > Header
3. Change your nav colors in Customizer > Colors > Primary Nav
4. Increase the Container Width to 1200px in Customizer > Layout > Container.

The other changes are primary font sizes and padding which has been reduced from 40px to 30px in the content and sidebars.

I made some progress but cannot manage to put the site name font in black (it should be on the corner top left)

You can change its color in Customizer > Color > Header –> Site Title.

As a note – its worth disable the SG Optimizer when you’re customizing this will eliminate any cache issues
