Need performance improvement on theme
1 reply · Started by Alice on June 23, 2018
I've done with the basic website and currently doing performance improvement. The site overall size is 5.5MB with an average load time of 3 seconds. The GP theme size is 226KB with a load time 2.7 seconds which seems excessive for a bare bone theme (see the test URL below).
Question 1. Is there general guideline and performance advice for this theme I created?
Question 2. Pingdom tool suggests updating the expiration for these static images. How can I specify that?
The following cacheable resources have a short freshness lifetime. Specify an expiration at least one week in the future for the following resources:

Question 3: fonts.googleapis.com seems taking a lot of time. Is it necessary to have it or I can turn this one off?
Hi there,
Just ran your site through Pingdom. The actual theme doesn't seem to be taking very long to load (as you said, it's super small).
However, 3.6MB (what the site is now) is still pretty big. Have you optimized all of your images?
Google Fonts also seem to be taking a while to load. Perhaps try the System Stack font? Or host your fonts locally: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-local-fonts/
Let me know if this helps or not :)
