Navigation menu block in sidebar
3 replies · Started by Frans on April 11, 2023
I have made several menus to be used in sidebars. In a post, I can insert a navigation block with an icon that looks like a compass or small clock. It is categorized as "theme block": Navigation Block
In the widget section, this block cannot be chosen, I can only choose the depricated (old) navigation block (icon that looks like a calendar page). It still works, but during editing, serveral messages pop up warning that I use a depricated block.
How can I get the current navigation block in a sidebar widget and show a menu in it?
Thanks !
Frans
Hi there,
it seems core doesn't allow the navigation block in the widget area.
See here:

It should work in a GP Block Element where you can build your own sidebar.
Thanks ! I know how to add a GB block to a sidebar. Can I add a navigation menu to a sidebar GB container block ? Or do you mean that I can add hyperlinks to pages, posts or categories in a GB block, style them using the GB styling options and construct, thereby, a sidebar menu ?

Yes, you can add a navigation block to a GB container in the GP block element - sidebar.
