Mystery excerpts

I imported an xml file with posts into a website. Here is the result: http://www.marcvandersterren.nl/
The post with the image of the two girls is the only post that was not imported, but freshly created in WP.
What baffles me is that the excerpts of the imported posts are nowhere to be seen or edited in the backoffice. Also, they don't have the Read more... thingy. In the xml file these excerpts are tagged <excerpt:encoded>.
How can I edit and/or reproduce these excerpts in new posts?
Go into one of the posts in the back-end and click "Screen Options" at the top right.
Then check the box next to "Excerpt".
A meta box should appear under where you edit the content called Excerpt - does it have text in it?
Will you ever cease to amaze me? ;)
