    Hello,

I’m a complete novice website maker. I’ve read through the series of postings here on menu placement, a good-sized collection. Some sound like my exact issue: How can I use a slideout menu as the primary and only menu on all pages of my site across all display platforms?

There seem to be about twenty different places in the GeneratePress user interface where miscellaneous aspects of menus get set. Ok, maybe not twenty, but it sure seems that way. Really, only about five, though that’s four too many for me.

I’ve got a main menu that appears across the top of every page. I want it to go away, in favor of a slideout menu containing the same items. This would seem to be a relatively simple change.

But I’ve tried all the combinations of “go here, set that” in the various postings. Some result in appearance of the hamburger icon on the current menu bar, and the menu does slide out when that icon is clicked. But nothing seems to make the menu bar itself go away.

The topic of menu placement cries out for one coherent, step-by-step, example-filled article… but I’ll take any help I can get.

    Hi there,

To have slideout navigation as your only primary navigation item, you need to activate slideout navigation for desktop and mobile:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/activating-slide-out-navigation/

Create a new menu without any items in it and set it to primary navigation:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-the-wordpress-menu-builder/#setting-a-theme-location

Then you can use this option to choose where you want the slideout toggle to show:
