Andrew
Hi,
I’ve managed to partially destroy my desktop menu while messing with Autoptimize and WP Rocket. Have deactivated both plugins, cleared browser and server cache. Also have a CDN through Smush, which I have deactivated.
No change. Only happening when I’m logged out (Incognito/Private mode).
Most pages/categories/posts are showing the normal menu. However some are showing a stretched version of the desktop menu and very occasionally, a transparent menu with no background.
Any ideas on what I’ve broken and how to fix it?
Thanks.

Also, it’s not on all pages/posts/categories. Only on some.

Seems to be all working again. Sorry to waste your time. On this, once I clear the server cache then view the site in Incognito mode, shouldn’t I immediately see the changes?
It seems like I disabled Autoptimize, WP Rocket and the Smush CDN, cleared the caches… but then had to wait a while until saw the changes. This doesn’t make sense to me. What am I missing?

StaffCustomer SupportCan you disable all plugins to eliminate conflicts from elsewhere first?

Hi Leo,
I deactivated the plugins one by one (except for a couple of critical WP security ones). Problem is still there.
A few other things common to all problem categories:
– It’s only in desktop view. Mobile view is okay.
– It seems to be isolated to the category Travel Desinations>Road Trips (I’m pretty sure). The sub-categories of Road Trips have the problem (although not all).
– The background colour for the top bar, header and widgets is also missing.
– The Category Title is showing, even though it’s disabled using CSS (code from this forum somewhere!).December 17, 2020 at 9:58 am #1584720Tom
Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperHi there,
I’m not seeing the issue at the moment.
The code the theme supplies is the same on all pages, so when it’s working on some pages and not on others, it’s definitely caching causing the issue.
Depending on your server, caching can hold on even when it’s not supposed to. Does your server have built-in caching, maybe? Some servers come with Varnish or other kinds of caching mechanisms that cache things automatically. That could be why you’re having trouble purging.

Okay thanks Tom, makes sense. I’m not seeing the issue now either.
Am using GoDaddy with a security package. It seems to have a cache:

StaffCustomer SupportIf the issue shows up again, just try disabling all plugins at once and turn them on one by one until you the issue can be identified.
But as Tom mentioned, it’s likely a caching issue π
