Merged navigation issue

I merged the header using the "Appearance > Elements" option but when on mobile my navigation dropdown menu overlaps any content that is there. I tried adding a background to the sub-menu to alleviate the situation but it won't display either. Sub-menu text on top of other text. ,,,,,WTF, LOL
