merge cells in tables

I believe when I starteted with GeneratePress, it was possible to merge table cells. Anyway, this option is still offered in the visual menu. However, it has no effect. So what about it?

I believe when I started with GeneratePress, it was possible to merge table cells.
GP never had any features specific for tables - this wouldn't be something the theme handles.
I'm not aware of a solution to merge HTML tables either - I Googled "merge tables wordpress" and saw some suggestions that might be worth considering.
