Merge

I'm not getting it at all.

I'm not seeing a page hero for the front page currently?

I don't understand. In my elements library I only have

global page headers
blog post width
full width page

Am I suppose to have something else?

If you want the content to merge with the header for certain pages like the front page, you will need to create a new header element as instructed here:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/transparent-header-and-navigation/

Then use the front page as the display rules.
