Making sure slowness is due to web host

Is there an easy way to tell if a website's "slow to load"-ness is due to the host? I know GoDaddy has a very inconsistent reputation but I am on one of their dedicated servers, so that's why it is so puzzling to me.

I don't want to move my website to another web host just to encounter the same issue.

Hi there,

There are sites that provide this service for free. There are "speedtest" sites for these. Ideally, you should test an empty page to eliminate all the other factors.

On your specific case, I'd optimize the image sizes first. Your site's images are not well optimized.

Your page has images that are 1mb+ (one was 5mb, that's too huge). You should fix this first and then do the speedtest for the host.

Elvin, my experience is that speedtests can be inconsistent throughout the day. I guess I make an empty page and then just test across different times during the week for best results?

Ah I see. Then that makes it harder to identify because while it may be fast now, it can possible be slow when we're not testing.

Yeah, that's the way to go but that sounds really tedious.

My advice/suggestion: If you're not happy with the quality of service, the simple solution is to get a better host. If you're doubting the quality of service you get, change to something you trust more. Your peace of mind is worth more than a few extra bucks for a better hosting. :)
