Make site private (need login to access)

I have a website in a subfolder of my main website that is used privately. Search engines are discouraged but someone would wonder in. How can I set it up so that one needs to login to access the site?
Hi Robert,
I think there're some plugins which can help you achieve this.
I did a little research, you may give these plugins a try:

Hope this is helpful!
That article looks very helpful, Ying. Thanks! I will let you know how it works and which plugin I wind up using!
For now I will use Password Protect WordPress Lite. It is extremely simple -- can set a password for the entire site, and via a cookie user does not have to login in again until the cookie expires, which can be configured. Later I am may look at other plugins for managing on a per user basis, but I am happy with this simple solution for now. Many thanks, Ying!
You are welcome :)
