Navigation Item Width and Header padding not working

I am trying to customize the main navigation menu by setting the nav item width:
Layout->Primary Navigation->Menu Item Width
and when the page loads the newly set width is displayed for a moment but then it reverts back to the 'default' narrower size. I do not have any custom css on the page or similar
Same applies to the header padding:
Layout->Header->Header Padding
Always goes back to the 'default'
Both these look fine when I save & Publish them
I wonder if I am missing something here?

Are you using a caching plugin by any chance? Or a child theme?

it is offline, not using caching BUT I did childify it. Could that be the issue?

Hard to tell without seeing the site but it could be.
Make sure you are importing the correct style.css and no code in there is overwriting the customizer settings.
If this still doesn't work are you able to replicate the issue on a live server?
Now I activated the actual theme (not the child) and it is working. It must have been it. Thanks for pointing that out
