Left sidebar not displaying on homepage

I have added a left sidebar and also selected the layout as Sidebar/Content. I want to have a vertical menu setup for my website.
How can I get the left sidebar to work?
Hi there,
The home page is using Sections which removes the sidebar by default - Sections add-on is meant to be a simple page builder so all the elements are removed.

Would you consider starting with one of the templates from the site library?
