Leaving the search bar opened in the navigation menu.

Hi,
I have managed to have my search bar enable on the navigation menu.
To search, we have to click on the magnifying glass icon.
Is there a way to leave the search bar as a search box?
I would like the search box to be always opened, instead of having to click on the magnifying glass icon.
